How to make Pancake Roses

I promised in my last post that I would show you how to make these very simple but effective rose pancakes.

First of all I made a standard pancake mix, then added 3 well blended small cooked beetroots to it. I then made the pancakes as normal in a large frying pan. Don't worry if there are imperfections around the edge or if they aren't perfectly round as this adds to the natural effect of the roses.

Cut out a circle from the centre of each pancake.

Then cut a slit from the inside of the circle to the outside. From that point you can roll the rose from one end to the other:

Place the roses into a dish. I used these lovely heart shaped ones from Sainsbury's.

I then served my pancakes with strawberries cut into heart shapes, sprinkled with black pepper with accompanied by a balsamic reduction and sour cream for dipping.

There is no need to discard the centre circles either. I made a Beetroot and Brie Risotto Tower with mine.

Have fun making your rose pancakes!

Red Rose Pancakes

I've been thinking about starting a blog for some time now. So the possibility of winning a much coveted Philips Airfryer thanks to Confused.com was just the incentive I needed to give me the final push. Prepare yourselves for an outpouring of my creative ideas over the coming weeks and months...

Today's creative idea was inspired by the proximity of Shrove Tuesday to Valentine's Day this year. Red Rose Pancakes!

I added blended beetroot to a basic pancake recipe to add colour and flavour. The pancakes are then served with strawberries and black pepper accompanied by both a balsamic reduction and sour cream for dipping.

If you would like to have a go at making these pancakes yourself then I will be showing you how in my next post. Or if you would prefer to create your own original pancake idea to win a Philips Airfyer, then head to Confused.com for details of how to enter. Who knows it might be just the incentive you need to start your own blog too.
